Building A Home

Building a home, I've heard, is such a fun/exhausting experience! I cannot wait until it is our turn to build our own and have it customized to fit our family. However, for the time being we are perfectly happy in the home we are in nestled here in Lakeway, Texas.

We actually have moved quite a few people who are building their own home, and have noticed how common it is for them to move into an apartment or a rent house while their home is being built. If you are needing an interim place to stay while you are building your home check out the few I found below.

Moving to Lakeway

We get asked all the time how far we will go in order to move someone. Well, our answer is...We will move you anywhere within the state of Texas.

And, one of those places is Lakeway, TX. We happened to be located here in Lakeway, but often move people all over Austin and the surrounding areas. If you are looking to move here then please check out some of the links below for some beautiful sites and new up and coming neighborhoods you must check out!

Looking for things to do? There is nothing more relaxing than hanging out on Lake Travis. There are plenty of marinas to go to where you can rent boats, skis, wake boards, and much more! If you aren't into the outdoors as much then after you move here, members can go relax at Lakeway Resort and Spa.

Oh and don't forget the wonderful restaurants we have here! Some of our family's favs are:

Pao's Mandarin House - must try the Mandarin chicken!
The Grove - you have to check out the cute coffee bar next door too.
Craig O's -most definitely our favorite pizza place!
Rough Hollow - an elite neighborhood in Lakeway that is growing rapidly

These are only a few of the places we have tried, and we are always looking to find more great places to eat. So please feel free to share any more restaurants we should try in the comments below.

Oh and don't forget to like us on Facebook!

Don't Forget The Details

When moving, one of the last things on your mind are the minor details that you don't think about until you are moving your China hutch outside and all of the sudden the doors fly open and smacks you in the face. Well, that may not have happened, but it could. Either way you think to yourself, I should have bought that plastic stretch wrap when I had the chance.

I know it ends up being an extra expense when you are doing the move yourself, but it is so worth it and will avoid damaging your furniture.

If you are wondering, yes the plastic wrap is included in our move. And, we also have these really cool over-sized moving bands which wrap around your furniture in order to secure the doors from swinging open.

All in all, sometimes it's a good idea to let that sales guy talk you into what you may not think you need. We are all about making your move easier. With that being said, if you need a little extra help, let us know by filling out this form.

We hope you have a great move!

Boxes, Boxes, and More Boxes

I think it's safe to say that boxes are pretty much a necessity to every move. Whether you purchase them or go to every local grocery store begging for any they are willing to give we all need them when it comes time to moving. And, when it comes to us personally, we always end up running out and having to go buy more!

Well, then it occurred to me that maybe I should invest in some good ones that I can store easily for our next move, or better yet rent some! Now, usually the ones you can rent are those plastic green ones you see on upackgreen.com. However, with Bird Brothers Moving you can also rent large wardrobe boxes as well!

Why do you need wardrobe boxes you ask? Well, if you are anything like me then you value your clothing and wear it for many seasons because we all know things come and go back in style all the time. Anyway, using wardrobe boxes frees that space you may have used cramming all of your clothes in your car. Or it will free up some regular boxes you were planning on putting them in.

However, our solution is to either purchase these boxes or rent them. This way your clothes get to stay hanging all together from one house to the next. And, the best part is your hangers don't get all tangled and your clothes come out just as perfectly as they were put in.

Good luck on your search for boxes! Let us know if you would like to purchase any from us!

Please contact us with any questions you may have about your big day.

Box ALL Of Your Small Items

Clutter when moving is a complete nightmare, at least for me it is. I've always started out each move we have made with perfectly organizing what goes in each box, and then neatly stacking it in an out of the way location in my house. Then the days start creeping up on me and before I know it the day of our move to Lakeway has arrived and I am realizing how unprepared I am. That's when I literally start throwing things into boxes and my organized move turns into chaos.

However, I always try to keep in mind one of my most important tips: box ALL of your small items. This may not seem like a big deal, but let me tell you from experience. The number of small items you have out of boxes means that many trips to the truck or your car.

I do have to say I have become more organized with each move. That being said, I'm banking on my next move to be my best move yet! And that means that everything will be in a box! Or at least that is my dream.

Good luck to you on your next move!

Double Check Everything

After every time we moved, before leaving every hotel room, before dropping off every rental car, my dad would always double check every corner to make sure we didn't forget anything behind. Now, that is my tip to you.

TIP: Go back and check every drawer before your move.

During one of my many moves I forgot to completely empty our buffet cabinet.  I had actually started packing early on that one and had emptied about three quarters of it then ran out of boxes and decided I would finish it later when I had time. So, I put back a few bowls and some pitchers (that I had already wrapped with newspaper) back into the cabinet for later. However, when we arrived to our new home and opened the doors, much to my surprise I found my dishes fully wrapped and thrown everywhere! Now, the only good part to this story is that only one of the five pieces of dishes were broken.

However, if I had gone back through and checked every cabinet, drawer, or shelf, like my dad taught me, then those dishes would have been saved. It is super important to not overlook the little things like cleaning out drawers and cabinets when moving. It might just save your grandmother's old crystal vase you were storing in your China cabinet for safe keeping.

Now, if you liked what you read then head on over to our site and fill out our contact us form, and one of us will get back to you as soon as we can.

Packing Large Boxes

Last minute packing can bring last minute chaos! Trust us we've seen it, but nothing we cannot handle. So, here's a tip for you to keep in mind. Don't over-stuff large boxes. The last thing you want or need is for your things to get broken because of poor packing due to last minute rushing. Large boxes are great and all, however, their purpose is for a few large, light items versus a lot of small, heavy items. The less space available the better.

Also, remember not to make your large boxes too heavy. Your box can only support so much weight, and if too much is put into it then you run the risk of the bottom falling out as well as everything in it.

What to pack in large boxes:

  • Pillows
  • Blankets
  • Towels
  • Bedding
  • Shower curtains

What NOT to pack in large boxes:

  • Books
  • DVD players
  • Photo albums
  • Coffee pots
  • Heavy appliances
  • Small collectibles
  • Small children

Preparing For Your Move

There are many things that need to be accomplished before you move. Tons of prep work, packing, organizing, throwing away, etc.

But, one small thing you can do is to take your beds apart and any other furniture that requires to be disassembled. But, if you are one of those people where every second counts then this tip is for you!

TIP : Make sure you don't take your bed apart the night before. We want you feeling fresh on the day of your move :)

On a more serious note, every little bit helps. And if you are unable to do this step then no worries, Bird Brothers Moving and Delivery has your back.

If you are in need of a mover, then let our family come move yours. Contact us at freequote@birdbrothersmoving.com.

Staying Organized

One mistake we all make when we are moving is not boxing your belongings. In order to make your move as easy and as seamless as possible, you have to BOX EVERYTHING!

Of course I know you aren't going to box your dressers, chairs, wall art, etc. I mean, all of the other stuff. If you can fit it into a box, then put it in one. This will not only streamline your move on the day of, but it will also create a well organized moving truck or trailer and will allow your movers to work quickly and take fewer trips to the truck and back.

When we moved to Lakeway, I was boxing anything and everything I could find. I even went as far as boxing my kids' rolling drawers of crafts. You know the ones you can buy from Target?

I'll take some pics and post it later of our moving truck when a customer has been super organized and boxed nearly everything so you can get an idea. I promise it will make a huge difference!

That's all for now and don't forget to Contact Us for your next move!

5 Packing Tips And Tricks

When moving, whether it is across the country or down the street, it is so important to protect your things from breaking. To ensure this, here is a list of 5 tips to think about when packing. These tips will not only help keep your items safe, but will also save you a little room.

Packing Best Practices

  • More is better - In this case, more is better, you can never over-protect your breakables when moving. Feel free to use as much paper or bubble wrap as needed to keep your glassware, dishes, pottery, etc. safe.
  • Small boxes are your friend - It is okay to use multiple smaller boxes than one large box for your fragile items. They are much safer and more secure in a small, well packed box than a large one with lots of open space.
  • Towels serve a dual purpose - Use towels and rags to put inside of glasses and vases or use them to wrap around your dishes or picture frames. There is no need for your towels to take up their own box when they can serve a dual purpose.
  • Heavy items go first - Remember to put the heavier items in the bottom of the box. The last thing you want is to find your new coffee mugs crushed because the coffee pot and toaster were packed on top.
  • A little extra cushion - Think about using your pillows as a little extra cushion on the bottom, top, or sides of your larger boxes. This gives a little extra padding to your items.

Go Local And Support Small Businesses!

Running a small business isn't as easy as one would think. You basically have to invest your entire life into this company that may or may not produce a profit. It's a huge risk, and a scary one at that. However, with the help of friends and family and repeat customers it has been such a wonderful experience.

That being said, I want to stress the importance of keeping it local. There are tons of moving companies here in Austin, but not all of them are your good old family-owned company like Bird Brother's Moving and Delivery. We have come to the realization that small businesses must stick together! Of course there are times where you must go with a large chain retail company, I mean who doesn't go shopping at Target right? However, if you can keep it local then please do. Chances are you will get a better overall customer experience. That is the main difference I always see when going to a family-owned restaurant versus a huge chain restaurant. Now, there are some places that prove me wrong, but since opening up our business I have really realized the importance of customer service, and which by the way ours is excellent!

So, the next time you choose that large chain company for your next move, think about the quality of service you will get compared to the service you will receive from a family-owned moving company who grew up right here in Lakeway, TX trying to earn a living. And, remember cheaper isn't always better.

3 Steps To Take Before You Move

There is nothing better than getting the chance to start over, at least to me. I love new beginnings and moving to a new home is just that, a new beginning. Instead of looking at moving as a daunting task that you absolutely dread, look at is as a fresh start. Take this time to take these 3 steps.

Get Organized

If you have a chance before your big move, take the time to completely organize your home. Whether you hire someone to come in and do it or you go through your things yourself, get it done. There is absolutely no reason to move things you plan to get rid of later on down the road. All it does is take up space in the moving truck for your things you do plan to move. I started to do this before we moved to Lakeway, and boy was I glad I did. Inevitably, on the day of the move we ended up getting rid of a ton of more stuff, but if I hadn't gone through my house before hand I wouldn't have been as organized. Well, as organized as I could be.

Donate Locally

This category is for those items you no longer want, but can't seem to throw away for good. I can't tell you how many things we donated before our big move. I encourage you to think outside the box on this one instead of donating to your local Goodwill think about your local daycare, library, elementary school or even a local thrift store or church. It is so rewarding to know that your gently used items are now being used for the better.

Just Let Go

Throwing away your belongings can sometimes be very emotional. But, there comes a time where you have to let go. There is no possible way for you to keep everything you purchase, obtain, or find in a lifetime, and things eventually do wear out. It may take a 5th hole in your favorite pair of jeans in order for you to realize it, but as long as you do it will be so worth it. There is something to be said about cleaning out your house. Refreshing is the word that always come to my mind.

So, refresh yourself and prepare for your new beginning.

Moving to Lakeway?

Lakeway is a beautiful city full of wonderfully, nice people. Ever since moving here I haven't met a stranger. We are so blessed to have found such a welcoming community. If you and your family are looking for the perfect community to move to then look no further because  Lakeway has it going on!
